Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Hey guys,

Sorry for not blogging for such a long time, I was hospitalized for more than a week because of the severe swelling of both of my legs, and that happened a week before school reopened.

Doctor said that the swelling was due to nephrotic syndrome, occurs due to low levels of albumen in the blood, which is also associated with kidneys secreting protein into the urine.

This is however, not the main cause of my hospitalization, for I am also diagnosed to have Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

It is an auto-immune disease whereby my immune system is unable to identify my own body cells and hence, attacking them. This can cause inflammation to the skin, kidney (for my case), liver, heart and also the nervous system.

To date, there is no known cure for SLE, but it can still be controlled by immunodepressants, but it will be followed up by a host of side effects, which includes a lowered immune system. In other words, I'm more likely to fall ill if I caught a virus, and consequences can be fatal if it is a strong virus or bacteria.

Now, I'm taking medications to control SLE and also to ensure that my kidney is functioning properly. Life so far changed a lot for me, but I'm still hanging on, thanks to my friends in Singapore, and not forgetting my family, who always called to check my condition, even if they could not come over to visit.

Thanks to Oldham Hall too, for always being there, and allowing me to ride on everyone's faith on course to my recovery.

Friends back in Malaysia, sorry if I ignored you these few days because I've been busy looking up the Net regarding my condition.
