Rules...For whom?

Let's inject some background into your mind first...Why are rules made? To achieve stability? You probably give this answer...Breaking them would get you punished...Whether is is school rules...game rules...even national constitutions...

However....How many people really get punished due to the breaking of rules? Certainly less than 50% of the population of the country...Perhaps even a mere 10%..

So....To put these into perspective...Are rules made to stop the minority from going overboard, as now it seems that the rules are meant to punish those who breaks them since the majority has received no effect since rules were established or passed lawfully?

Now...the scenario to further illustrate my point...

Few minutes ago..I was rather disappointed on how the security guards over here are addressing boarders who "seemed" to be "breaking certain rules".

Alright...Do allow me to explain this further...Imagine you are chatting with your friend inside your room at around 30 decibels.....that is slightly above whispering....yes...to try to wiki it about this fact...And all of the sudden, the security guard comes in and tell you that he could hear you from downstairs....Yes...I mean downstairs...

Funny thing is...At the same time...There was a group of boarders (don't want to mention who they really are as I will be touching on a very sensitive issue), were making such racket that it is obvious where the noise is coming from...The building opposite my room!

However, things get funnier...The guard simply shook it off the noise made by them as if it was just a breeze brushing through the trees...

Ok....now it's time for me to file my arguments properly....Firstly, I do not think that it is plausible for the guard to simply shake off that racket because he could not detect where is the noise coming from....Given that he could actually hear my friend and I talking....Unless our voices are much louder than group of around 6 boarders...No...I doubt that when we have friends busy with their own things in my room....

Secondly, Instead of looking for the source of the noise...They seemed to be interested in something downstairs which they could not place their finger on...I wonder whether are they merely acting as if they are on the job or not...Sorry...I'm not saying that you are not doing your job...But you are not doing your job right...

Now that I have sufficiently file my arguments in place on why am I relating this to the given title...I want to ask everyone for your opinion...This is because I believe everyone is bounded to a certain set of sentences which restrain us from going off beyond the given limits, let it be verbally, or through actions...

For whom are rules made to confine? The majority? Or the minority?

Now...this is the reason why I do not wish to address specifically who are the boarders who were "forgiven" for making noise at 12.30am...

Of late...It has been a rough time for the JC scholars to breathe easily as every move made is a potential rule-breaking move....

Birthday parties are virtually banned for the JC scholars because "we make too much noise"

I guess this place really need a decibel meter....a group of max twelve people celebrating a birthday party against 40 to 50 people....

Absolute difference...

Mind you...Silence time is to be observed here after 9pm...

If so...then why could a large group of 40-50 people are allowed to have parties after ten?

And why the smaller group couldn't? Strange now isn't it....

Another food for thought...The majority complained before that the minority made too much noise throughout a week from 23rd Feb till 27th Feb...

But the minority were having their block test at that week....

Unless you have 32 boys and girls orally memorising their notes in the same room...I would be curious about their complaint....

Feedbacks are often requested from the management staff so that they could improve the standards of the place I'm currently staying at...

But the problem I see is...no measures were taken till now...It was either parried by some irrational reasons such as "wait until you all go back for the holidays" or "we are looking into this, do not worry" for 4 consecutive weeks...

These instances were evident over here even during meal times and during laundry services...In short...If you could speak a certain language...you will get a "better" treatment..No frills attached...For those who can't....Well...too bad...you will not get extra food....you will not get your laundry....and the list goes on...

And please...Don't give a reason to hide your fatal error..."Oh..we intend to have this so that each and everyone of you could interact and help each other in everyday tasks"....

Then why isn't English used as the lingua franca over here?

Yes...What I'm addressing is not irrational...what I'm addressing now is NOT RIGHT...

Are the majority currently enjoying special treatment?

Are the minority being suppressed?

Are rules merely to control the minority?

The verdict is yours...

Dependent... who is more prone to breaking the rules??? Anyway.. personally... i believe that rules are made for everyone... no exception... not even for the enforcers... however... it is true that the enforcers themselves should not just simply hit around with excess collateral damage...

(a GP answer for a GP essay... keke...)
