Junior Colleges...

Junior colleges(JC), from a malaysian's view, it's a burden as most of the average students opt to work and start a living rather than pursuing tertiary education... But for many Singaporeans, and also scholars living in Singapore, it's the only way to start a living...

From what i learnt from my Singaporean friends and scholar-mates, the posting to junior colleges is much, much different compared to Malaysia. In Malaysia, we are actually picked to go to which tertiary education available...namely, Form 6, local colleges, matriculation, and universities (if we are picked by the government, that is) The unlucky ones with have to cough out money to fund our education in private colleges or study abroad...Brighter students chose to apply for scholarships, both local and overseas...

However, in Singapore, everything is totally different, as 20% of the nation's population is jc students...In other words, college postings is based on their O-level results, regardless of how good or bad their results are...Colleges range from the mostly-heard-in-Malaysia Raffles, Hwa Chung, to the Malaysians-dunno-a-thing-about-it Tampines and Yishun...

So everyone has to go to jc...but...there is a catch...the lower your score (meaning you scored better results)...you get to go to better jc....the higher your points are...well.....it may spell doom to your i-wanna-be-somebody plan..upon that you might wanna go to polytechnic or ITE...(Any Malaysians will scream with joy if they got poly...I dunno why...but it's actually sounds as if it is the last place you wanna go...besides ITE)...It is notable that competition in Singapore is very high since secondary school...although i suspect primary school to be the same...

Right now...I have friends who are trying to appeal to go into the jc they wanted to...but chances are close to nil...as english capability is also weighed in this process....Well....I guess this is Singaporeans' lifestyle...Be tough or get rolled over by others...

Friends alike...If you are facing such problems....do not despair...for any other jc are just fine...because what matters isn't which jc you are from....for even the darkest alleys are able to produce radiating light...
